choice is the
Conaxsat Nano2, front USB port with a
Sleek design remote control. Can also become a PVR by loading the manufacturer
factory file. This receiver is really one of the best in it's class, made in
Korea with very high engineering, you will be very please with this receiver,
little harder to setup compare to the Kbox Prodigy but once you get it to work,
you won't regret your choice. The closest runner up is the
Viewsat Ultra V3, Excellent
receiver with a Good Quality hardware with also a very Good Quality Picture and
Sound. It's a very powerful receiver with also a Conexant™ processor and 32mb
of RAM, the only thing about this receiver is the price versus a Kbox, very
expensive but for the Viewsat lover's, it's an excellent receiver. If you
still want to enjoy a Viewsat without having to pay the high price, the
Viewsat Ultra Lite is a nice little
receiver, very small in size with front USB port, you wont be able to enjoy the
Video Component output and Optical output like the Ultra V2 but it's a Viewsat
at a Fraction of the cost of the Ultra V2. The
Captiveworks 700S is a great unit
for the price, you can't go wrong. The USB port is located at the front and
come in Black or Silver, it's not the most powerful receiver but you will like
the easy setup and nice OSD and universal remote control. The
nFusion Solaris is a great little
receiver but need many improvement in regard of Quality picture, Sound Quality
and hardware. The remote control also need to be work on and it is a little
expensive, but you get an Ethernet connection that turn this receiver PVR
ready. It send the signal to your PC and you can use the hard drive of your PC
to record ! That's an amazing feature. Another STB without all the gizmo is the
Captiveworks 650S, make a great
second receiver in the house also, available in Black or Silver. Use the same
interface as the 700S.
The PVR STB's
A PVR " Personal Video Recorder " receiver means it is capable of sending an
audio/video files to an external storage memory like a Hard Drive or USB Drive.
It connects to the USB port and can be controlled by the receiver. The
Sonicview Premier and
Sonicview Elite, exact same receiver
except the Elite have Dual tuner ( Watch a channel while recording another ) and
have 3 USB ports. The Premier have 2 USB ports, 1 at the front and 1 at the
back. They also use a Conexant™ processor and excellent harware. The
Captiveworks 800S is an excellent receiver
for the price, the only disadvantage of this receiver is that it only as 1 USB
port in the back, you will love the easy setup of this receiver and especially
the price ! Most affordable PVR ready FTA receiver right now on the
market. Also come in Black or Silver color and offer an excellent manufacturer
warranty so buy with confidence.
Viewsat Pro didn't really impress us but
it is still a good receiver. Easy to setup but PVR work a little erratic, very
sensitive on the kind of hard drive you will use, beside of this it offer a
Great Quality picture and a Clear Sound.
The HD STB's
First before we start talking about each receiver, we will explain you how to
get HD Channels via an FTA receiver. All FTA HD receiver comes with an ATSC
tuner, you can connect a UHF antenna to it and get HDTV channels via OTA. we
have a section on our site that explain all details of OTA in the information
section. AT this moment there is only HD channels via Satellite on a C-Band Dish
transmitting DVB-S2. In order to get those HD channels on C-Band you will need
an 8PSK Tuner, these channels are Free To Air and require no subscription and
are fully legal to get as they are unencrypted.

- 3820 H 29124 Equity Mux (25 Channels)
- G14 @ 125°West, C-Band, 6ft (2m) antenna required
- 4060 V 30000, NBC Universal (3 Channels)
- 4080 H 30000, CNBC HD+ (1 Channel)
One should first maximize a few signals on this satellite. Two good
frequencies to use are 3375 H 4444 3/4 Nebraska NET and 4080 V 32360 3/4
CBS feed in HD .
The
Viewsat MAXHD. These two are the best
receivers in all aspect for HD, easy setup, Best Quality pictures in 1080i, HDMI
output, incredible sound and many hot feature. Connect an external Hard Drive
and record your favourite local HD channel, these receivers are perfect for the
people that are new in FTA HD. Extremely Powerful processor that can clock over
300Mhz with 128mb of RAM. But the
Captiveworks 4000HD is the king of the
HD's, why we didn't put it in first place it is because it is very hard to
setup and use but when you know how to use it, it kick all other receiver out of
the race. It's the only receiver that use Linux as the operating system, you
can Watch HD Channel, Surf on the net, play DVD, it's a Multimedia system ! It
use a AMD processor with a ASUS motherboard, it is basically a computer, add a
Wireless keyboard and enjoy hours of fun !
Sonicview 8000HD is the receiver to buy if
you are a Sonicview fan, one of the best motherboard use inside in
combination of a powerful Main Processor. The Version 2 Include a Cooling Fan
with 2 USB port. The
nFusion Nuvenio, another excellent HD
receiver but also a little hard to setup, Quality picture is not as Good as
Coolsat or Viewsat but overall a good receiver. Nice looking with a excellent
universal remote control, come also with an Ethernet port like the Nova to use
your PC for recording, 2 USB Port and very good looking unit.
